Chamber Celebrates National Small Business Week
The Greater NY Chamber kicked off national Small Business Week with a powerful webinar featuring helpful tips and tools from a distinguish of experts that included the Internal Revenue Service, The Small Business Administration, NYC Dept of Small Business Services, the US Dept of Transportation and the US Dept of Labor.
The webinar was followed by our April 30th in person Networking Reception & Awards Ceremony in the historic General Society Library located below our offices. This year’s awardees included: the Dr. Roy Hastick Small Business Champion Nora Estrada, owner of Guarapo Restaurant in Brooklyn; the Health Care Champion Muhammad A. Kader, CEO of All County Healthcare; the Small Business Education Awardee E. Laverne Johnson, CEO of the International Institute for Learning and Veteran Small Business Champion Duane Jackson, owner of Duane’s of Times Square.
After the awards presentation, Chamber CEO Mark Jaffe moderator a roundtable to help improve the safety and operations of its small business members. The round table included: Marl Jaffe, Kent Swig, President Swig Equities; NYPD Deputy Inspector Arron Edwards; Nora Estrada, owner of Guarapo Restaurant; Duane Jackson, owner of Duane’s of Times Square; Muhammad A. Kader, CEO All County Healthcare; Tyler Stotts, Company Commander US Army Recruitment; NYPD Captain Lauren Foster form the Office of Crime Control Strategies; E. Laverne Johnson, CEO International Institute for Learning and Sylvia Mitchel, VP & Senior Relationship Manager of J.P. Morgan Chase. A multitude of issues including: affordable housing, retail theft and improving the quality of life and safety for small business owners and their employees were discussed (see Chamber TV) .
